Thai food plays an important role during Songkran. You’ll find lots of vendors on the streets, selling many sorts of delicious Thai food during the festival.
The foods served depend on which area of Thailand you visit. Some universal Thai foods enjoyed throughout the festival include Khao Chae ( exotic flower-scented rice dish), Gaeng Kiew Wahn Gai (green curry chicken), Krayasad (a puffed rice mixture with peanuts, oats, Thai noodles, coconut syrup and palm sugar), Kanom Tom (sticky rice with mung bean balls), and Kanom Krok (rice coconut pancakes).
However, if you have difficulty adjusting to the Thai palate, you’re sure to find global fast food chains like Burger King and McDonalds around the city you’re staying in.
