Water transforms us all
It’s funny. There’s a time in Thailand where the summer sun bakes the ground and dries out the air. You wouldn’t expect a drop of water for weeks. Then something strange happens and the tide begins to turn. The Songkran festival draws near and the cities brittle with excitement.
Quietly people are preparing themselves for an explosive event like no other on earth. The following day at midnight, the flood gates are opened (metaphorically of course) and the country is doused with water by everybody able to wield a bucket, a water gun, a hose or even an elephant.
No one is left high and dry or behind during the three days in April over which Songkran is held. The best thing to do is just embrace life and let the water splash you where it may.
