Look Out on the Road during Songkran
If you plan on going to Songkran 2015, we highly recommend either using public transport, a taxi or go by foot to get around, as the festival can be a highly dangerous time on the road.
The road toll statistics during the festival make for sobering reading.
This year there were 2992 road accidents which resulted in 322 deaths and 3,040 injuries during Songkran in Thailand. 40 per cent of those accidents were the result of drunk driving and most victims were aged between 20 and 40.
So while you are allowed to wildly celebrate during Songkran, it’s highly important to keep yourself safe. Avoid driving, take extra caution when crossing roads and keep your friends close so your group can look out for each other.
